How do nasal strips work?

i got a box of Breathe Right nasal strips because my dad snores alot and wants to try it out. my question is how exactly does it work? It claims it's drug-free so how does it reduce snoring?
 
my understanding is that it is a flatish piece of metal wrapped in adhesive softness. You stick it to your nose and the metal tries to maintain it's original flatish shape, therefore pulling your nostrils open more allowing more air in.
