how do make games work when on a netgear RT311 router??

I installed the latest firware version 3.25 on my router. How do I set up the ports so I can play tcp/ip games with people????

hehe sorry being blank, that site ya sent me is really helpful, but it doesn't have the ports for age of empires 2, do you know of any site that tells the ports for Age of Empires 2?

Actually, I found a TechNet Article from Microsoft, its pretty Generic and opens a few ports. It appears it uses DirectX to determine which ports you use. DX7 uses different TCP intial port than DX8.

Ok I decided to be nice and make an edit. So people don't have to follow the link, but can if they want to.

If you're using DX7:
Initial Port TCP In/Out 47624
TCP In/Out 2300-2400
UPD In/Out 2300-2400

If you're using DX8:
Initial Port TCP In/Out 6073
UPD In/Out 2300-2400

So according to this if you're using DX8, you don't need to open the TCP In/Out ports except the initial one. But for redundancy with older DX versions I'd go ahead and open the ports.

I'm trying to play AOE 2 across TCP/Ip with my girlfriend, shes hosting the game and I know her IP, but it doesn't show up when I goto show tcp/ip games and put her ip in

And last thing is if you play on the Zone, they say you only need to open these ports.

Ok, are both the systems in the same house or are you playing at your house and her at hers?

If you both are in the same house, you have some internal network issues.

If you both are at seperate houses, then you need to follow the DX7 and DX8 ports that need to be opened. 🙂

Question here...why do you have to do port forwarding when not hosting the game? Shouldn't the router let your requests go out whatever port you want, and then let the replies back in?

I'm playing at my house and shes at her house, shes not on a router
heres what it says in port section on my router setup
all the spaces between 2 and 11 are open and numbers can be entered in them, do you know what numbers I should put for AGE 2 and where??
