Question is in the title. I'm mostly asking about when the photograph people. Aren't there some cultures that don't want to be photographed? How do the isolated people who don't speak English respond to a strange man going around with a camera, flashing pics? Does the photographer just go around with his camera and take pictures of people without them caring? Does the photographer use a really powerful zoom and stay out of sight?

I already googled and couldn't find anything. Anybody know?

i would think photographer observes the tribe for a while and gains their trust, snaps shots and then runs for it.

they just do a google search for an object then pay people to photoshop them together so it looks like they're real.

If you actually read some of the articles at the end or beginning of the magazine ("On Assignment"), they often have stories about the author's experience while writing/photographing the articles.
