How do LCD screens wear out?

I have a Samsung 19" lcd monitor for about two years now. This is the first LCD monitor I've owned. I mostly game with it and I've noticed that images from the games I play are begining to burn into the screen long after I've quit playing the game. Is this normal? Do LCD normally wear out like this?

Samsung has a 3 year warranty with this LCD monitor, do you think this sort of thing is covered under a manufacturer warranty?

very interesting, Id also like to see if its covered under warranty. I wonder if that is like aged ghosting, gets worse with age.

Hmm I actually haven't seen anything burn-in related except in large LCD TV's. If you keep the same image in the same area for long enough it would burn in tho. Say you play a certain game with a life bar always in the same area...or leaving aim always on...this would vary from monitor to monitor though on how prone they are to these burn-ins.

Come to think of it this monitor does ghost more than when I bought it. Also the images do burn in from static images from some games that I play. However the burnt in image dissappears over time especially if I don't play the same game.

I took a look at Samsung's manufacturer warranty and it appears that 'burnt in images' are not covered.

So I'm supposing that with time even the low responce time LCD's will start ghosting more with age.

the LCD screen on my Samsung cell phone is so washed out it is almost unreadable. I wonder how that happened. But i haven't seen that on a computer LCD screen though.

My Dell 1800fp has some short term burn in. If I run Miranda IM docked long enough you can still see some reminants of the image on my desktop. It isn't permanent though.
