THIS is why it's popular. Brewing a pot of coffee is too much like work - one step in particular: measuring the amount of coffee that you're going to use.

Now, that reminds me: I need to go brew a pot of coffee.

Pro tip... Use a KoolAid scoop to measure coffee. That way you don't have to use a bunch of little scoops. As a rough guide, 2 level KoolAid scoops make a 10 cup pot, and you can adjust the math from there. Heap the scoop for a bit stronger, and lighten the scoop for weaker(shouldn't be necessary). Anything less than 5 cups isn't worth making, so that's 1 scoop.

can't you taste a difference between 1/2 pot and full pot brewing?

Maybe it was just my crappy drip maker

french press isn't wasteful, but it's messy and time consuming vs the alternatives

I have this coffee maker: http://www.amazon.com/Cuisinart-DCC...IBX9/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1289153939&sr=8-2

And I don't notice a discernible difference in taste between brewing 10-12 cups vs. the 5 cups I normally brew every morning. Even using the 1-4 cup option doesn't seem to change the taste.
