How do Intel and AMD processors compare in clock speed

In another post I asked about hints on getting a cpu for my new Asus A8nsli deluxe.
I have always used intel products so I really need to know how the amd cpu's compare to intel in clock speed. My current system is working at 2.60 ghz. So I really wnat any cpu I but has towork at this speed.

No it doesn't.
AMD does more work per clock, so a lower clocked AMD64 will not necessarily be slower than a P4.
As a rough guide, a 3000+ will be similar to a 3GHz P4, a 3800+ equivelant to a 3.8GHz P4 etc, but those are only rough numbers.

You will want to purchase Athlon64 FX55 or 57 these run at 2.6 GHz and 2.8 GHz respectively and are the only ones that are available that can do this. As for Performance any 939 pin Athlon64 should perform better then that P4.
