desktop pic for reference

i've decided to do some customizing to xp at this time in the morning, more specifically im going to tweak some toolbars
my questions as follow:

-is there a way to make toolbars transparent? that beige rectangle around the icons is a hassle. if not can i at least change its color?
-the toolbar spanning the left edge of my screen is 4 toolbars that i have dragged unto 1. when they are seperate i can make some 'always on top' and others not. yet when combined they lose thier individual properties. i'd like to have the small icons (CDRW and quicklaunch) always on top but not the others. possible?
-can i dock a toolbar to the edge of the screen without the toolbar spanning the entire edge top to bottom. or left to right
-how about locking a toolbar. possible? that way i can't resize without unlocking

that shoud be all

That's what the search function is for.

I'm assuming you are reffering to the whole taskbar since they are not really independant of each other. Try Glass2K.

That will depend on your appearnace scheme/theme.

I'm not sure what you're talking about. Your link is dead.

d/led the recommended Glass2k and although not quite what i want/needed its it usefull small (<100kb) program

i'll try to be more specific:
lets start with the quicklaunch toolbar, usually situated adjacent the start button. when dragged into the middle of the screen it creates its own box. to make it visible not matter which program is in focus check 'always on top'. finally Glass2k will make it transparent. now i have a transparent quicklaunch toolbar situated in the middle on the screen all the time.

the tricky part:
after completeing the above i docked the quicklaunch toolbar to the left side of my screen. my apps now get resized when fullscreen as to not overlap with the toolbar - similar to when the start menu is always on top. unchecking this setting restores fullscreen to take up the entire screen. i'd like to have a transparent quicklaunch docked left, transparent, always on top and overlapping anything else on screen. win xp is apparently highly customizable so how would i do this?

it the screenshot i have 4 toolbars docked left, but only quicklaunch needs to be on top.
