Yeah, but dont spray it on the monitor, spray the cloth with it lightly.

You can also use rubbing alcohol or distilled white vinegar.

Make sure the monitor is off while doing it.

(we are talking about CRT's not LCD's right??)

Yep glass cleaner has worked fine with me.
I dont think glass cleaner is a particularly potent cleanser so shouldnt cause any harm at all.

I always spray right on the monitor. works fine...most CRT tubes are so well sealed anyway...

Its not the tube you need to worry about, it the high voltage electronics behind it. One drop of liquid down in the high voltage circuit and you will be buying a new monitor.

I've heard that alkaline based cleansers (most glass cleaners) can damage certain anti-reflective coatings on CRT's.
I don't know if it's true or not, but it's really unnecessary anyways. Water will get anything off that you want off.
Just don't use a cloth that is scratchy or overly linty, an old t- shirt works well.

yeah dont let it run down inside the monitor....99% of the time it's not a problem, but that 1% sux.

I would avoid ammonia cleaners....most of the time water and a soft cloth is all you'll need.

Like alkemyst posted avoid ammonia based cleaners, also, spray on a soft, lint free cloth. One thing to note acidvoodoo, some monitors like my Sony monitor have an anti-glare coating that requires the same care you would treat a lappy screen; what monitor do you have?

you all are paranoid that's all...just watch where you spray it. You're spraying the screen and NOT on the vents...sheesh

What can you use to clean an LCD monitor? I got one a few months ago, but i'm not sure what I can use to clean it with.

For LCD, just use a mildly moist cloth. You abosolutely do not want to use any glass cleaner, solvent or detergent. Just a damp cloth.

I've always used a clean cloth meant for cleaning eyeglasses or camera lenses. I have several of them, made/sold by Pentax, that I picked up on clearance a few years ago. They work great for cleaning monitors, and of course also for eyeglasses and camera lenses!
