This thread is about living and working in washington DC for an internship.

I recieved the offer letter (yay!) so now begins the planning phase.

The place is right next to a metro station that serves multiple lines.

I was looking at renting a dorm room at one of the universities near there (american springs to mind)... but they end their available rent time on aug 10th, where I need to stay for 2 more weeks or so.

I know very little about washington DC. Anyone have any suggestions?

update: I have arrived.

I would actually try to find somewhere in VA that is metro accessible, but that's just me (cheaper)

I just sent you a PM. Check your PM. I've worked in DC for more than 2 years now.

Stay away from the SE area if possible ;)

I worked in the Washington Navy Yard area for a couple of years. :(

That's a LOT of money, I doubt OP will want to spend that much.

OP, will you have a car or are you going to be relying 100% on public transit?

Go on craigslist and find people in the DC area looking for roommates. You can't afford anything for only yourself on an intern's salary but you may luck out finding someone who needs a roommate.

Other than that, NOVA is pretty nice.

I live very close to the Blue Line.

Very ignorant comment. SE has changed a great deal. Just avoid anywhere in DC late at night and alone.

DC is an expensive shithole to live in. Congrats on the new job. If you get super rich though, maybe you can enter politics and make new laws that allow you to not pay taxes!

Where in DC will you be working? That matters if you want a good recommendation.

near l'enfant plaza metro station.

ahhh DOT is right down there.

Well you can basically look for anywhere that is near a metro station as l'enfant is fairly centrally located, no matter where you are on the system, at most you would need 1 transfer to get there.

If you only need a place for "2 weeks or so", there's a Youth Hostel:
http://www.hiusa.org/washingtondc
address:
1009 11th Street NW
Washington DC 20001

when i say 2 weeks, i mean if i go the university housing route, they want me out by aug 10th. my school doesn't start back up till aug 24th or so. So i have another week or 2 of possible working.

sarah palin's advice not helpful. she clearly didn't washington DC well.

And avoid SE at all times of day. Changed a great deal my ass, unless "by a great deal" you mean tripping over less used hypos, then maybe
