how do I view subtitles?

downloaded some .rar files and, when extracted, yielded 3 files -- .avi (the movie), .idx, and .sub

the movie plays fine, but there are no subtitles. what do I need to do with the .sub file to get the subtitles to appear?

BSPlayer plays subs.

tried it with WMP and the divx player.

use media player classic. i think wmp can only play embedded subs.

I installed VobSub, deleted the .sub file in the directory -- which was giving me the japanese subtitles -- and renamed an .ssa file that I didn't realize I had downloaded to .sub. lol.

Ditto. I think I DLed a separate sub file to use with MPC.
