How do I view files on my iPod?

I used to own the 20GB iPod which I remember I could browse the hard drive of the iPod just like an external hard drive. A few months ago, I picked up an iPod photo and uploaded a few things. Yesterday, when I performed a firmware updated, it said I had 32GB free. I uploaded a few Podcasts via iTunes and I just noticed that iTunes is telling me I only have 5GB left over? This does not make sense. The iPod does not appear in My Computer or Windows Explorer. I could not find any utilities to allow me to browse the iPod. Can anyone help me out here? Thank you.

Go find the pref that allows the ipod to be used as a hard drive and check it off.

Yup. In iTunes 6, go to Edit>Prefs

In the iPod tab, and music sub-tab, make sure "Enable disk use" is checked.
