How do I use VNC with a router and zonealarm?

I have VNC and I want to be able to access my home computer from work. I have a router set up at home plus I have ZoneAlarm (not pro) installed. How do I go about doing this?

thanks,
don

On your router you have to forward port 5800 to the PC's IP that you want to connect to. In ZoneAlarm you need to have "VNC server for Win32" listed in the allowed programs with "Allow Connect" and "Allow Server" both checked for Internet and Local. This shoud get everything working as it is all I had to do to make it work with a Netgear RT314. Also, you may need to forward port 5900 to your computer in the router setup becase VNC can also use that port.

The 58xx range are for access through http (the VNC server has a built-in webserver).while the 59xx are for native VNC access. The xx is the node number you specify in your settings. Pick what you use to access your machine and forward those only.
