In order to upgrade my video card from 9800 pro to x800 pro/xt do I need to uninstall all ATI drivers from my machine and then swap the x800 in, or can I just turn the system off, remove the old video card, and install the new? What is the procedure for this? Thanks for any help 🙂

1. Download Driver Cleaner from http://www.driverheaven.net/cleaner
2. Uninstall ATI drivers from Add/remove programs menu.
3. Use driver cleaner (follow the instructions of the program please).
4. Swtich off the PC, take out the 9800 Pro, then the put the new card in.
5. Run the latest Catalyst driver installer in Windows.

You don't know whether your new card is a X800 Pro or XT? Sheesh....🙂

I just dont know if my new card is going to be a x800 pro or an x800 xt, looking for some good deals! 🙂
Thank you both though, thats what i needed to know!

Different drivers for the 9800 and the x800? 😛

They are UNIFIED for the 7200 to the x800.

Just UNinstall your 9800 from Device manager (r & r the cards) and Windows takes care of the rest.

😉

it's ain't like goin' from nVidia to ATI. :Q

power down system, plug in new videocard, power up system.
completely not necessary to use driver cleaner and remove everything... all ATI drivers, so all good.

i suggest using driver cleaner, why not?
ensure maximum stability, its a tiny program, just run it and install the new drivers,
not a lot of extra work

'cause it's is ridiculously redundant UNLESS you are upgrading from older Cats to newer (and it is still not necessary).

To change ANY ati GPU from the old 7200 to the new x800 use the IDENTICAL suite of drivers. 😉
(otherwise you are just UNinstalling and REinstalling the SAME drivers - why???)

1. Download and install Driver Cleaner 3.2
2. Uninstall ALL ATI SOFTWARE from Control Panel Add/Remove Programs
3. Uninstall your Display Adaptor from Device Manager
4. Turn off PC and switch the cards out
5. Reboot INTO SAFE MODE
6. Run Driver Cleaner 3.2 and clean the ATI and then run Cab Cleaner
7. Run Regcleaner as well, do the automatic registry cleaner
8. Reboot into windows and download the newest Catalyst (4.7 I think) and install that package.
9. Download Radlinker, install and then reboot (just say no when Catalyst asks to reboot, do it all at once)
10. Overclock and most importantly, HAVE FUN!

Just install new card. As they said before they use the same drivers.

Power down.
Remove card.
Install new card.
Power up.

Same drivers.

oh, how i long for the promised days of plug and play, and the paperless office. and while you're at it, i'll have a flying car, a jetpack, and a segway that doesnt look crap...
