Yes, this is the correct procedure.

Using a 98 system to make a boot floppy is fine, (just format it w/ system files)

what do you mean format with system files? I'm not going to be formatting anything when I update BIOS right? Should I back up my data first?

I mean when you format the floppy from a 98 machine, just check the box to copy system files to make it bootable.

you already have an OS on da machine.

here is the easy way to update the bios. put the Awdflash.exe and the expanded bin file on a floppy, then shutdown, using 'restart in MSdos mode' from the shutdown menu (DO NOT use the dos prompt from the programs menu).

at the dos prompt, key a: and hit enter. look at the contents, execute Awdflash.exe, save old as old.bin, then flash the bios. just make sure you copy the bin file exactly as it shows on the a drive. you must have em386 and himem turned off, msconfig can be used to uncheck the boxes for this, you must reactivate after the flash.

whole proeedure might take three minutes once you get the necessary stuff in order on your machine.

this way has worked for hundreds of flashes, never had a bad one yet.

Formatting is just the term used, you can format almost any disk, hard disk floppy etc.

You get a windows 98 or xp or anything but 2k and you make a startup disk, winxp is just right clickin on your floppy drive and put format startup disk.
You dont need to back up you data really, do like jfunk said and make the startup disk then put the awdflash and you .bin file on it. Then go into your bios and change floppy to first boot device and save and exit. When your computer reboots it should go to the A: prompt. Here you type in awdflash.exe and let the program run. After it starts up you need to back up your old bios, and you need to know the EXACT filename of the new bios. Follow the instructions to a T, DO NOT reboot during flashing of the bios until it tells you to press enter.
