I got a brand new system and it took me like a five years to save for it.. I don't want to mess it up.. I'm about to reformat the entire drive anyways.. I'm not worried about losing data.. but I want to have the latest bios version for my A7V mobo.. I'm having problems with my zip drive, and my hard drive (maxtor diamondmax) isn't being recognized by the NT setup (still, I tried drivers from Maxtor, didn't work).. so I think that I want to 'flash' my bios.. how do I do that? Thanks very much. I just read in the Anandtech New forum that there is a new bios for the A7V..

Download the newest A7V BIOS from the Asus website.
Also go to the BIOS Utilities Sections and download AFlash.

Extract AFlash and the new BIOS to a Blank Floppy.

Put that Floppy in your A Drive and restart, boot off the floppy and when you get the A:\ Prompt, type AFlash, when AFlash loads press 2, enter the new BIOS name which is ASUS1005c.awd and wait till it says Flash Succesful, make sure nothing stupid happens during the flashing, G-Luck

Laterz,
Nore

PS: If you mess up the Flashing, DO NOT restart your comp. Try it again and if you fail try the older BIOS, if you mess that up 2 then you'll need servicing on your mobo

BTW you might want to download the older BIOS also, so if you mess up you can Re-Flash to the older ones.

Peace,
Nore

Yes make sure you have a copy of the Old(er) BIOS just incase you have to revert back to it if the new one won't flash successfully.

"make sure nothing stupid happens during the flashing,"

ie: Keep children out of the room, keep your feet away from power cords, keep your hands away from the keyboard (no ctrl-c, ctrl-x, ctrl-Break), and don't do it in the middle of a lightning storm.
