How do I unlock my iphone 3gs?

Sorry I checked devteam blog but was overwhelmed by the terminology. I have a 3gs:
Version 4.1 (8B117)
Modem FW: 05.14.02

If anyone can point me to a clear walk through or something that would also be super helpful. Thanks.

The last proper baseband that Ultrasn0w works with was 05.13.04, and you can't downgrade. The only way you could unlock now would be to force 06.15.00 on your 3GS, which takes a bit of work and has its downsides.

You're basically loading the iPad baseband which is unlockable. The only problem is that you will have a hard time updating to future software versions. And you won't be able to update the baseband without a special ipsw from pwnage tool.

so how exactly do i do this? where do i find the programs/ipsws to get started..?
Install baseband 06.15.00 on a 3GS with iOS 4.2.1: http://www.redmondpie.com/how-to-up...00-with-redsn0w-0.9.6b5-for-ios-4.2.1-unlock/

Update to 4.3.3 using PwnageTool or sn0wbreeze: http://www.redmondpie.com/jailbreak...d-and-ios-4.3.3-with-sn0wbreeze-2.7-tutorial/

Unlock your 3GS on 4.3.3 w/06.15.00 using Ultrasn0w: http://www.redmondpie.com/unlock-4.3.3-ios-with-ultrasn0w-1.2.3-how-to-tutorial

Keep in mind this is a godawful idea. If you only lose GPS functionality, you'll be lucky.

I've heard reports of phantom data usage and much higher battery consumption as a result of using 06.15.00 on the 3G/3GS. That and you'll never, ever be able to update your baseband if a major problem is discovered further down the line.

I'm not sure if this will be a help, but when I moved out of the UK, O2 offered to text me some kind of code (I think it began with a #) that I needed to enter into my iphone, and it was unlocked like that (really quick and easy). This enabled me to use any sim from any provider in the phone. Perhaps you can contact the place where you got the phone and they will provide you with a similar service?
