How do I uninstall one video card so I can install the new one?

Although this may sound like a rather stupid question I was just wondering what the proper procedure is for removing my GeForce 2 GTS and installing my GeForce 3. Do I need to uninstall the current drivers and them reinstall them with the GF3?

Thanks

actually its not a stupid question but its one that most people will give a stupid answer to. There is no need to uninstall the drivers off the card if the on that you are upgrading to is the same brand......like if you have a gainward GF2 MX400 and you install a Gainward GF3 Ti500 dont worry about installing different drivers......and if you are just using nvidia standard reference drivers it dont matter if you switch brands or not u can still use those drivers. but if you use proprietary versions of drivers then definitely uninstall

Thanks for the replies. Actually I am using reference drivers and I have switched between a Vanta TNT2 16M, my GTS, and my GF3. Each time I only had to readjust the resolution. I was just thinking about getting serious to do a little benchmarking and I wanted to make sure I didn't compromise my cards in anyway.

I have a ATI Radeon and a Matrox G400 Max. I installed the drivers for my Gainward GF3 Ti200 and only had problems with the Ati drivers. When I removed them it was OK. So if I switch VC's both my Matrox and Gainward work fine.

That is absolute rubbish. If you were going from a Kyro2 to a GF3 and they were both made by Hercules are you saying that you wouldn't have to uninstall the drivers? If you are, you're wrong.

Also even if you're staying with the same family of chipsets (eg GF2 to GF3) it's still a wise idea to uninstall the drivers because you might have problems later if you don't.

dude BGF10K you are smoking some really bad crack. If I got out tomorrow and buy a PNY GF3 Ti500 I can toss it in because I am currently running a PNY MX400. Why you ask? Because they are made by the same manufacturer and all nvidia drivers use shared architecture drivers which means I can switch between any nvidia based card made by PNY from the tnt2M64 on up to the TI500 with no need to uninstall or reinstall drivers. And I really think you are crazy. A Kyro2 and a GF of any kind are not even based on a similar chipset so there goes that theory. If you wanna try to shoot me down on my facts you gotta try better than that :)

btw just thought i would add that if you wish to quote me in the future on this topic what i said in my original post was

There is no need to uninstall the drivers off the card if the on that you are upgrading to is the same brand......like if you have a gainward GF2 MX400 and you install a Gainward GF3 Ti500 dont worry about installing different drivers

I made it very clear that it would have to be an nvidia based chipset.

Anyone who has any doubts as if to whether or not i know anything about video cards check this out. This is the highest score for a GF2 MX400 on an athlon 1.4 Tbird that is not o/c'ed using WinXP and it belongs to me.

You completely misread what I was saying. I was saying that you were wrong on both counts, which includes going from one nVidia card to another.

Even though the drivers are based on a unified architecture and it might work most of the time, occasionally you might have problems so it always pays to completely uninstall the old drivers before putting the new card in.

I do apologise for sounding more harsh than I needed to be though.
