I want to uninstall IE 5.5 because it will not let me on the internet, then I want to reload the latest version with new service pack. My "Restore the previous Windows configuration" button is greyed out. Acording to the IE readme.txt file that is how I am suppoesed to uninstall it. What do I do now to uninstall IE5.5? Thanks for your help.

Dang as i remember i just went into add remove programs and found it listed and deleted it. It restored 5.1 just fine. i didn't like it either. Some sites just wouldn't load.

Moonbeam,

It is listed in the Add Remove Program box but it does not uninstall like other software. Another dialogue box pops up and that is where the box I am supposed to check is greyed out. I am not trying to roll back to 5.1, I really want to uninstall all traces of IE, then start over again. Thanks.

whizler,

Thanks for the great tip. I used it and was able to decouple IE from Win98SE. However, when I reloaded IE I still was unable to connect to the internet. I will try to upgrade IE now to see if the problem fixes itself. Thanks.

Another vote for 98Lite...have used it for last couple of years with no regrets. I normally use Opera for my browser but threw IE back on for the occasional bad site....so much for IE being an integral part of the OS.
