How do I uninstall Half-Life 2 from Steam?

Well, I finished Dling HL2, I run it and get to the Loading screen w/ the very blurry background.

I let it load for a good 15 min...and see no signs of progress. Tried to ctrl-alt-del, or alt-tab out, nothing worked...had to do a hard reset.

Now I try running it again and I get an error that says one of the files is messed up and that it will acquire it from steam again. I press ok, and it repeats the msg again and again.

I would like to uninstall/reinstall if possible. Anyone know how to uninstall just HL2? I have CS:S and I don't want to reinstall that as well if I remove Steam entirely.

Thanks for the help, will check this thread tomorrow morning.

HonkeyDonk:

Had the same problem, well, part of it. The first time HL2 loaded it took a long time, I mean a long ass time: 2 hours, maybe, I don't know because I left the house with it loading, and came back to find the menu.

I did restart (cold) when I though my computer froze, but that didn't corrupt any files. I'm not quite sure how to uninstall HL2.

Maybe you can just delete the HL2 content from the Steam Apps folder. Steam might just redownload it for you. Make sure to backup CS:S too.

You should be able to right-click on the game, go in to Properties, and hit "delete local game content".

PS igowerf's suggestion works too

ok, thanks guys, will give it a shot after work.

BTW, how long did it take for you guys to get thru that "Loading" screen? If it really does take like an hour or more, then I'll let it run, but if not, then sounds like I have a problem on my computer...we'll see.

I think that extra hour more is to download things like the game engine. When you just tell it to download HL2, all it downloads is the game content.

so in essence, the "loading" screen w/ the fuzzy/blurry background is HL-2 bieng installed?

no, that part should only take 15-45 seconds depending on your computer.
