How do I turn Vista Aero back on?

I can't figure out how to turn Aero back on. I had it running and to save resources I turned it off and went to Windows classic. Been searching for an answer on how to turn it back on. Found instructions to go into personalize menu, open color and appearance and there should be way but my appearance settings show up just like in windows XP with nothing about Aero. Then went to Themes and there is no Windows Vista theme available. Only My favorite theme, Current Theme, and Windows Classic. None of these resolve the problem in appearance setting box. My specs are amd x2 3800+, 2 gigs Ram, ATI x850xt PCI video. Thanks.

Right click desktop --> Personalize
Select "Theme" from the Personalization screen, make sure Windows Vista is selected.
Go back to the Personalization screen, select "Window Color and Appearance, select your color and then tick the "Enable Transparenty" checkbox.

You may also need to click on the "Open classic appeaance properties for more color options" link and select Windows Aero from that list as well.

Little tip if you are not sure on anything ie click help then type aero it will give you all information and show you how to do things related to what you type(aero in this case) in the help section.

Try typing Paint in help,it shows you how to find and open it .

I tried what you suggest. Problem is that in Theme selection there is no Windows Vista available. Only my favorite theme, current theme, windows Classic theme and browse. I tried each theme and it doesn't bring up an enable transparency box in appearance section. Im stumped.

Nah...I disabled all the time in XP. I am getting to know Vista which is why this happened. Disabling services is a tweak that helps reserve resources. Anyway, Anand forums have always been very helpful in the continued learning process which is one of the reasons I continue to experiment on my putter. 😀
Wow just noticed BD2330 that you joined Anandtech the same date I did. Cool..
