How do I turn off pixel shaders?

Just got Morrowind, beautiful and perhaps the biggest resource hog I've ever played. Someone suggested I turn off my pixel shaders, but since there's no such option in the game itself, I guess he was talking about my vid card. How do I do this, since there's also no such option in my 44.03 driver...?
 
you can't "turn off" pixel shaders... it doesn't work that way..

whoever suggested that you turn them off probably isn't a reliable source for information...

to improve performance, turn off AA and Aniso, and lower the resolution... 🙂
