how do i translate a .pdf?

I have a pdf that i want to translate from english. I have tried google translate and it tells me the file is too large, its 18 pages. i have tried opera translate , i installed the extension but nothing happens even tho opera says i have the extension installed.
any one able to clue me in as to how?
 
Is it a searchable PDF? Can you CTRL+A to select text and paste it in google translate or the like?
 
You may have to convert it to a word processor document and go from there.
