how do i transfer ringtones/pictures to my cell phone by irda?

i just bought a usb to irda adaptor because someone told me i would be able to trasnfer ringtones and pics ti my cell phone w/ it. the cell phone recognizes the infrared connection, but i don't know how to trasnfer the ringtones and pictures to my cell phone. if i try to go to the bookmark i have for the ringtones and pics via gprs connection, which is a .wml bookmark, it says "gprs connection unavailable". i don't sign-up for t-zones, any help is greatly appreciated. i have a nokia 6610 w/ t-mobile, thx.
