Has anyone ever successfully transferred their own domain from Godaddy to 1and1?

HTF do you do it?

Also, is there a better option to transfer to?

Godaddy is getting to be to expensive once you factor in private registration, which is included for free with 1and1 and I can transfer to them for only $6.99 for the first year.

I wasn't sure what forum to put this in, so hope this is ok.

I've never had problems with 1and1. Been with them for at least 5 or 6 years now, one domain and one email hosting. I actually transferred from Godaddy for the same reasons as the OP. Sorry, i don't remember how i got the unlock code but i believe it involved emailing tech support. Their customer service number is NOT toll-free (another reason to switch). Without going into too much detail Godaddy tried lying through their teeth in many ways to try and retain me as a customer. Their customer service really sucks!

Avoid 1and1 at all costs. Keep your domain with a domain company (I prefer namecheap but godaddy works too) and your hosting with a hosting company.

Neither did I for the first few years. when you have a problem, that is when the nightmare begins.
