How do i test oc stability?

I jumped my fsb plus to 4 and my fsb/pci to 101/33
i ran 3dmark2000 for about 2 hours...
ran quake for 30 minutes (how do i loop quake 3 arena?)
ran cd burn-in for a couple of hours...
went on the web for a couple of hours...
running seti and rc5 continuously for a day...
what else should i do?
 
I think you have basically everything covered quite well. Have you tried running 3dmark2000 and rc5 at the same time. That will be a nice burn-in technique.

yeah...i run seti and rc5 24/7 so i didn't take it off to do my 3dmark2000...i was told that these 2 programs don't interfere with games and programs...but only take up the unused cpu mhz....so i didn't bother to take them off...

i'll try the cpu stability prog...thanks plunX
 
Unfortunately, you can't loop a quake 3 demo 🙁

But don't worry, there's an even better way. Load any map (I suggest q3dm17) by typing "/map q3dm17" then, when you get in the map, type "/team s" in the console to become a spectator, then add about 15 nightmare bots and let it run all night. It works really well and if your processor can heat up, it will. Whenever I do this, I also turn on a lot of graphics to try to heat up my system even more. Commands like cg_shadows 3; cg_forcemodel 0; r_picmip 0 and cg_simpleitems 0 all turn on high quality settings that can over heat your pc even more.

I tried RC5, and CPUBURNIN worked perfectly, but after a few minutes of Half-Life Counter-Strike my machine crashed.
 
You can loop a demo in Q3. It is a great way to test system stability. The CPU intesive programs (RC5,CPU Stability Test, Prime95) will definately get the processor heated, but you can not assume that you are stable if this programs do not give errors.

I have been able to run CPU Stability Test or Prime95 for hours on end with no errors, yet if I start a game of HL/Q3/UT my system would hang after just a little while. I had to increase my core voltage up .05v to give me 100% stablility

If you are able loop Q3 for continuously for an hour or more, I think it would be safe to say you system is stable. If not, try the next core voltage.

How to loop Q3 demos:

1)Place the following lines into a standard text editor (notepad):

timedemo 1
Set D1 "demo demo001; set nextdemo vstr D2"
Set D2 "demo demo002; set nextdemo vstr D1"
vstr D1

(This config will loop the built-in demos 1 & 2 that come with the game.)

2)Save this config into your \Quake3\Baseq3 folder as "demoloop.cfg"

3)From the Q3 console, type "exec demoloop.cfg"

The looping will continue until ESC is presssed.

i ran seti rc5 icq outlook express(checking mail every 5 minutes) and that
stability test thing on...
after 12 hours...everything was fine...great...so i left it alone
came back in 3 hours...couldn't wake my computer...
grrrrr
i played quake for 30 minutes...no problem...i'll try the loop and the
team leader thing...thanks abomination and blue weasel

I saw in your profile that you don't have your email address available. If you wish, you can email me or post your email address and I will be glad to email my "demoloop.cfg" to you.

When you get "Can't find xxx.cfg" in Quake3, it means the file is not where it should be or is named something other than xxx.

Make sure the "demoloop.cfg" file is in the QUAKE3\BASEQ3 folder. Also, some text editors don't always name the file what we intended when you save it. Go into the BASEQ3 folder with Windows Explorer and see what the file is named. It may be named weird like "demoloop.cfg.txt" or something similiar. If it is, just rename the file to "demoloop.cfg" using Explorer.

It should work now. . . .LMK if you have any more problems. . .
 
i ran prime ... but it doesn't seem to slow down my computer like stability cpu
can i run prime and work with things...search on the web and stuff?
 
Yeah, running Prime is fine while running other programs. It is like RC5 and OGR, except I am not sure exactly how well it works when the CPU is needed by other programs. . .
 
I've never seen that method before but when I heard, "looping a q3 demo" I thought he meant running the demo over and over and over... as in, not reloading at all. That's a cool method but running a bunch of bots will push yuor CPU and video card to the max where as reloading demos over and over won't put as stress on the vid card but most likely stress the HD more (if there is such a thing as stress on the HD heheheh).
