How do I tell which version of WinXP Pro I have??

Hey Everyone,

I noticed this link over at BetaONE and am a little worried. Microsoft is very chummy with out school's Computer Science dept, so we get free software, including WinXP Pro. All we had to do is get the CD Key from the sysadmin, and wala! I'm worried cuz my copy has no product activation, so is it the corporate edition? Is there a way to find out? And will SP1 hose it if I install it? From what I can tell, the product activation "patch" only changes the code when it is on a custom install with WinXP SP1 on a CD, not if you already have WinXP installed and install the patch.

Thanx in advance, and what does everyone think about this "patch"? Will it fly? What options does that leave us users?

I'm looking for if I have a corporate version or not.
I'm not aware of any way to do that, although if anyone else is please let us know as I am always curious about things like this.

If you got it from the school than you should be fine, technically it is not a "corporate" version since the school would be part of a volume licencing program which does not require WPA (just like the corporate version).

You should be fine, I am running the same version both at home and on my machine at work (I also work for the ITS department at a school) I plan on upgrading to SP1 when it comes out and I'm not worried about it getting "hosed", although I am worried about this being a royal pain in the @ss.

it will only matter if you have a warez cd key, which you dont. Its just that one cd key that they are focusing on.
"Currently, Microsoft is in the works of completely rewriting the algorithm for the way Windows XP Corporate keys are generated, and is rewriting the code for Windows XP to recognize this new algorithm. This new code will be an added ?feature? of Service Pack 1 due out later this year."

It looks like they are interested in more than just that one Dell XP Pro Corporate CD Key.
