I'm installing win98 on a friend's computer and can't get any higher than 16 colors on the resolution. It's an older computer with an AGP card, but there's no mfg. or model number markings on it. is there a program that will tell me what the card is?

nothing useful on the card.

Device Manager says "S3", but i can't seem to get past the 16 color limitation. I booted with knoppix and the colors were fine and it detected the S3 card with high resolution.

Square-looking, short card, big black square passive heatsink?

My money's on the S3 SR9/Savage4 16MB series.

Ok, so Knoppix obviously knows what it is. Why not check the Device Manager equivalent within KDE?

odd..it didn't register my last post. Either way, m4h was sooo close...same exact card w/ the exception of it being an 8 megger.

Thanks guys 🙂
