how can I tell if my thunderbird is fried or not. I have no way of testing it on another motherboard so I cant tell if its the CPU or the MOBO. Is there anything that can be physically seen to tell if it is fried? Or do I have to go to get it tested on another motherboard?

Get another motherboard and test. Think if static fried a chip, would it look any different?

I think i just got a defunct chip cause I used anti static mat and wrist wrap. I put it in another board and I believe it is dead. That sucks. Is it possible for AMD or the place I bought it from to tell if the chip was fried from static/overheat or if it is just defunct? If so what do they use to test this?

These chips have at least one stickers on them, some are marked warrenty viod if removed, this may not be correct but I was told they are put there so if the chip if fried through no heatsink or incorrect install they will discolour (burn) and no warrenty replacement.

Bignate603:

Never try a faulty CPU on a fine motherboard, 'cause you never know if the CPU will take the board down with it.

The cpu never worked. I thought that I fried it someway but I dont think that is the case. The sticker on the back is still yellow like it came.

Just take it back and tell them it doesn't work...especially if it never worked at all!

No i dont get any beeps no keylog even. I tried the cpu in another abitkt7 herboard and no go so I tried it in a AsusAv7 or the socket a one and no go. I also tried a duron in all these boards and it only worked in one of the abits after i used this "Devil Chip" I have not tried to reset the bios on these boards though. except on one of the abits. One wierd thing did happen when i fired up one board the abitkt7-raid about 3-4 seconds after I turned it on it imediatly turned off and the power switch would not work. mind you i had the heatsink and everything setup properly.

"DEVIL CHIP" DEVIL CHIP I say!
