How do i tell if my Radeon 9500 to 9500 Pro mod was successful?

i have just software modded my Radeon 9500 to 9500 Pro by patching a file to get the 8 pipes. It is not the L-shaped memory PCB, in fact, it is a Sapphire Black PCB 9500.

My benchmarks seem to be a bit higher (about 100 pts. on 3DMark2k3). What program should I run to check for checker board effects?

3DMark2k1 and 2k3 dont have the checkerboard effect.

- also, if I run whatever program i need to run and see there is no checkboard effect, can I flash the BIOS to a 9500 Pro?

Shouldn't your 3dmark jump up by a 1000 at least? But that is 2k3 so i don't know.

EDIT: Oh wait... you said 9500 Pro mod... thought you were trying to make it into a 9700 Pro... sorry.

No such mod for 9500 non-Pro to 9500 Pro. It physically does not contain the 8 pipelines in the non-pro sapphire PCB. All it did was possibly enable a few software features and boost the core and memory clocks. That is why you are only seeing a 100 pts boost, because there is nothing it can patch to turn on the pipelines cause there aren't any there to turn on.

darn it, you're right. I did the fill rate tests in 3DMark2k1 and its only about 1100 or so.

Fallen Kell, you are 100% WRONG. The "inline" memory 9500 non-pro DOES have 8 pipelines (four of which come disabled) and CAN be turned into a 9500 PRO. The "inline" memory 9500 Non-Pro is built on the same 128 bit board as the 9500 Pro. The "L" memory 9500 Non-Pro is built on the same 256 bit board as the 9700. That's the only difference.

PremiumG, check my post here for more info.

gpw11 & boyracer - Actually, the big mod was turning a 9500 Non-Pro with the "L" shaped memory chips into a 9700/9700 Pro.

Yup... success rates for that have gone down to 20% though.

Hmm, I seem to be the lucky one. 2 for 2 in the last month.
2 sapphire 9500 np 128mb cards softmodded and o/c'ed to 9700 pro. no artifacts, fill rate doubled, etc.
Both received from newegg

I don't know where the 20% figure came from, I've never heard it. The last I heard the success rate was about 60% when the mod was initially release and in the next couple of weeks. I would think that it would stay at least that high, maybe going even higher as the GPU-making process matures and yields improve.
