How do I tell if my Promise Ultra100 has that internal clock thingy that auto-sets bus speed to 33MHz

Last time I overclocked to 160+ FSB with my hard drives onboard (CUSL2) I would get blue screen errors on bootup and my hard drive nearly wiped out. Now I have an Ultra100 controller and I hear some of the Promise controllers have something onboard that autosets the bus to 33MHz for the hard drives... how do I tell if mine has one?

hmm, I was kinda expecting a larger response than this :)

Come on guys, someone must know, there was a thread on this a few months ago... just can't find it :(

The motherboard controls the pci bus speed.

The card just runs at whatever the board tells it to run at.

yea, but supposedly some of the Promise IDE controller cards have something built-in that overrides that and runs the harddrives at 33MHz... at least so I hear. There was a small discussion about this and the Ultra66's, in which the many of them had this feature but not all of them, so I'm not exactly sure if they took off this off on the Ultra100 or put it on all of them.

I'd be interested in hearing about this...never have heard that anywhere. Where did you hear this?
