How Do I Take the Dust Filters off the P180B?

I tried doing exactly what the manual says. I was able to get the grille doors open and push downwards on the clips sticking out of the top side of the dust filter itself. But it just won't come off. It's extremely aggravating.

Here is what the manual says, the following instruction is completely useless to me. I need more specific directions that explain how to do something that will actually result in the filters coming off.

There are two tabs on the filter. Use both of your hands to press the tabs downwards. Lift it up and slide it towards the top of the case to remove the filter.

I especially don't get how I am supposed to "lift it up" considering there is no space to do that and it still seems to be just as stuck as ever after having pressed downwards on the tabs.

It shouldn't be difficult, just push down on the tabs and pull it away from the case and a little upwards so that the two clips on the bottom come out of the grill.

How do I pull it away? What am I supposed to grab in order to pull it? My fingers can't fit under the bottom corners of the filter as there is not enough space for that.

Push the tabs down, and while still pushing on the tabs, push them towards you and lift out.

How do I lift it?

Where exactly do I put my fingers in order to lift it? I don't see any space to put my fingers on it so that I can lift it.

Jack hammer or blow torch should do the trick. I'm looking at the P180 dust filters right now and they look real easy to detach. You hold on to the 2 tabs, press down on the tabs to unlock it from the frame, and pull out.

Yet after trying my very best to apply all the advice given thus far in this thread, my filters are still just as stuck as they were before I made this thread. It's definitely not easy to take them off for me, else I wouldn't have been stuck on it for hours and I wouldn't have made this thread.

I'll never get why there is a trend of never answering highly-specific questions or providing highly-detailed answers on tech boards which might actually deliver the result a confused poster requires. Ie: I had similar problems trying to get specific answers about installing a Zalman heatsink.

Right now I am pressing down on both tabs, and it is resulting in very sore thumbs and not much else. Considering my fingers do not fit under the filter, I still have no idea what/where/how I am supposed to "pull"?

How about you take out the HD cages and look at the filter from the inside of the case. You'll see if the filter notch is unhooked from the frame.

My suggestion is to give up on building computers if this is hard for you.

http://www.driverheaven.net/reviews/Antec%20p180%20review/

the above link has a couple of good photos of the dust filters.

from looking them, I recommend the following procedure
1) With your left hand, using your index and middle fingers, depress the tabs protruding from the upper/center area of the filter.
2) With your right hand pry the top of the filter away from the case far enough to clear the tabs that you are depressing with your left hand. (use your index fingernail. If you lack fingnails or your fingers are too large to pry the filter away, use a small flat-head screwdriver.)
3) Use the thumbs of your left and right hands to slide the filter up from the bottom. Again if your thumbs are too large to gain purchase under the bottom edge of the filter, use a tool such as a small flat headed screwdriver.

That's cruel:). Sounds like my 20 minute experience 'trying' to get the heatsink off the CPU. Just gave up since I just wanted to take it off due to paranoia... Still can't do it:(.

Definitely tricky. Took me a few minutes to figure out. There should be a better way.

Friend of mine has an Antec case with filters that has the same problem. Squeeze the tabs all day long, and you get nothing but sore fingers. Filter won't budge.

I just got this case and had that problem (I broke one of the tabs on the top filter too)

I think the easiest way is to press the tabs down and then push out from inside the case, comes out easily then, but that doesnt help if you dont want to open the case.

If you dont want to open the case you are going to need a lot of patience, probably the only fault on this case!

Wow, at first the filters seemed tricky, but they're really not. It gets easier with each time you do it.

1. Grab each tab with your index finger and thumb
2. Push towards the case to help release the clips
3. While pushing towards the case, apply downward force to release the clips from the metal part of the case.

At this point, my clips usually make a clicking noise as the clip snaps away from the metal.

4. While holding the clips down, pull back to remove the top part of the filter away from the case. The filter will only move a little bit away since the bottom part is still hooked, so don't force it too much.
5. Once the top part of the filter is free, lift up and away to release the bottom hooks.

During the whole removal process, you should have the tabs between your thumb and index finger.
