Hello everyone

Just wondering how i go about taking files,(videos, pics) that my boss has backed up on his Mac external drive, Iomega 1TB.

And play and use them on my PC? i downloaded a program called mac...something 8 it has a peace symbol for the logo? sry the computer is at work or i would tell you.
But all that program does. is make it so i can see them on the PC not use them
and they dont look like normal files??? what can i do so i dont wipe the drive and make them only for PC???

MacDrive 8 is what you downloaded. OS X does not ordinarily use any different file types from Windows, so I am not sure what problem you are running into. COuld you give an example of a filename (with extension)?

im at home now but i can get that info latter today in about 10hours lol i live in hawaii
hmmm but if thats the case i guess it could be a driver/codec that needs to be downloaded for the files im talking about to play... ill get back to you on that sry

Could be as simple as the files require Quicktime: IE movie.mov, image.pict . If so, try installing Quicktime for Windows, if you haven't already.

Or/in addition it could be the old problem of Mac files with no .ext on the filenames, IE: 'photo' rather than 'photo.jpg' and 'movie' rather than 'movie.mov', etc. (It's generally less of a problem in OSX as it used to be, as OSX now relies much more on filename exts itself.)

On the PC, such files just show up as blank icons with no clear purpose. To make matters worse, by default, Windows generally has known filename extensions not shown by default, so a user can't necessarily notice the name difference anyway.

If this is what's going on (it used to be a pretty common cross-platform conundrum) first, in Windows, go to folder options and uncheck 'hide extensions for known file types' if it isn't already.

Then check the Mac file-names- if not present, try adding the logical file .ext types to each file and type. With the correct .ext, the files should show up and work as expected in Windows.

you could run vmware player and use the vmware image that's floating around for osx 10.5.8 or 10.6.3 and mount the usb drive and copy it over using network share

I am pretty sure that is NOT what he is going to do.

as of now i need to get the process moving so im sending all the files to the server and going to put them all on one 2tb drive, so i dont have drives everywhere.
in the mean time what other installs could there be for these .mov files to work?
