How do I sync an iPhone to a new laptop?

I've got a new laptop (PC) and I'm not sure how to begin syncing my iPhone 4S to this new computer? Is it as simple as copying over the entire iTunes folder and doing a sync?

What I don't want to happen is for everything to be removed from the iPhone and then reinstalled on the sync, because I don't want to lose each program's save data. Is there a backup file that I've got to import from the old laptop to prevent this mass uninstall/reinstall?

Please be detailed with the steps, or let me know where I wasn't clear. Thank you!

I thought I would loose the program data too on a sync with a new PC (new Windows installation actually, no iTunes copied over from the last installation). So I backed up everything I could and hoped for the best.

After the syncing was completed and apps added again, my high scores were still there in the games (like Bejeweled), my car data was still there, my saves were still there. Seems I didn't loose anything.

I just logged in on my Apple ID on the new installation, transferred my purchases to the new iTunes, selected I want to sync apps too, re-added them again and clicked on Sync (you might want to remember about the other categories too, like music).

You might want to wait for someone else to confirm that though :p

Copy the iTunes folder over (it's the one in your "My Music" folder), and restart iTunes. Then when you are back in iTunes, right click the phone and choose to "Transfer Purchase" first before syncing. Then after all of your apps and what-nots are there, right click again and choose to do a "Backup". Wait for that to finish, then sync.

Alternatively, you could just "backup" to the old computer and go crazy on the new one.
