How do I stop WMP10 from trying to sync files when I plug in a flash drive?

Under Windows XP Service Pack 2, when I insert a USB thumb drive, I get a dialogue from Windows Media Player asking if I want to sync files automatically or manually. It's for digital audio players, but I don't have a digital audio player, and I don't think this thumb drive qualifies as such.

There's an option in WMP to turn of synchronizing for a specific device, but it doesn't stick -- the next time the thing is inserted, the popup comes back. It wouldn't be so annoying if I could just click "cancel", but it opens the stupid Sync window in WMP anyway.

The useless Portable Media Devices icon in Control Panel similarly offers no relief.

try going into Windows Media Connect. If your device is there, disable it.

I have a similar problem with photoshop elements 3. it keeps trying to get the pictures out of my thumbdrive everytime i put it in. anyone know how to disable that?

Thanks for the responses, SelArom and biostud. It turns out it only does it when WMP10 is running, which is still annoying, but not as bad as I thought. A question, though -- where can I find Windows Media Connect?

You might not have it. it's an optional windows update, but if you do have it it's in the control panel. The one that says "windows media connect" :D

and powertoys didn't work for me in stopping photoshop from trying to get photos off my usb drive. any one else have this problem?

thanks
