how do i stop windows messaging spam?

hi,
i am on my aunts HP and i am getting all these pop up spam ads. even when the browser is not open. i presume it is being caused by windows messanger. i cant stop them. i have ran adaware and spybot twice and cleaned everything. but they still keep poping up. how do i terminate them for good.
