How do I stop Quicktime's Tray Icon from opening on startup?

I've killed it in msconfig, only to have it reappear when I restart. I've also looked and looked, but I can't find a setting to stop it from starting on startup.

I'm running XP pro SP1.

Yes, I know this should be in the SW forum, but I really need an answer fast, and there's more fellow nerds who hopefully aren't as clueless as I looking at this forum than at the SW forum.

:)

Look in the Run keys using regedt32. Check both HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and HKEY_CURRENT_USER

It's in the Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion hive

Right click on the icon and goto properties. there should be like a checkbox where to talks about the icon.

There's a setting right in the preferences somewhere. Don't make this too difficult.

go to start -> run -> and type "msnconfig" without the quotes. Then go to the startup tab, and uncheck the one that is related to quicktime.

I just prefer going the registry route as it seems something else usually pops its way in there, too. Usually from my daughter installing stuff

No, there isn't. If there is, I sure would like you to guide me to it.

this is so easy. you guys are making it way too complicated. Just right click on the icon and check in the properties. IT IS THERE

If you don't wanna do it from the tray icon, just open up quicktime...Edit -> Preferences -> Quicktime Preferences and look there

True. A checkbox that I think says "Install Taskbar Icon" or something. Uncheck th box.

,,,,or you could edit your registry or install other software like has been suggested. I prefer just to uncheck the box.
