How do I stop Norton from blocking my outgoing mail in Outlook 2003?

I'm unable to send mail from Outlook 2003. Whenever I try, a Norton message pops up titled "Symantec Email Proxy" that says exactly this:

"An encrypted email connection has been detected.

Please see help for more information on how to transmit encrypted mail.

Click here to go to Symantec Technical Support Knowledge Base...
"

...and in the lower left corner, "1003,14".

So I go to the website, and it essentially says to disable Email scanning, which I do, but I still get the same error message.

Anyone have any ideas?

I'm using XP w/ SP2, Outlook 2003 with all updates, and Norton Internet Security 2005 with all updates. The e-mail account is my school e-mail account, and I think it's an IMAP account.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Uninstall norton and use something like AVG.

Norton blows more the Rita and Katrina and sucks more than a Hover.

YoshiSato, lol, I understand your feelings. I just haven't looked into the efficiency of other security software compared to Norton's (and probably won't have time to). I don't know how AVG compares to antivirus, or if it has a firewall component, for that matter.

YoshiSato's is a valid suggestion, but does anyone have any idea how I might work around this with Norton still installed? :)

The free version of AVG doesn't have a firewall that i'm aware of however I have a router I use as the firewall(hardware firewalls are better than software ones)

BTW in my experience running at least 2 anti-virus softwares is better than 1.

I've seen noton detect stuff AVG did not(I think Norton is inventing stuff just to look like it's working), I've seen AVG catch alot more than Norton does.

What I find to be very funny is you run a Noton scan the system is clean. You run AVG afterwards , AVG finds a bug, Norton's Auto "protect" pops up and says "I've found a virus" Yeah, good job Norton, here is your cookie.

What every you do STAY AWAY FROM McAfee. This crap will shut your computer down if you do not keep the software upto date. I haven't seen Norton do this however.

Norton wants to rule your system.

Depose the tyrant.

Install AVG (or similar) and drop in ZoneAlarm Pro as a firewall (both low end versions work and are free:thumbsup;).

XP (if you are using it) has a firewall also, however, I prefer ZoneAlarm

:) Well...lol, I will try to look into AVG and ZoneAlarm then. I appreciate your guys' suggestions on those. How do you really compare anti-virus programs? Are there any sites that detail that? And maybe firewalls, too...I don't know how to compare those either. It's sad, but often all I feel like I have to compare security software is brand name familiarity, because I don't know how to compare them otherwise.

But since I still probably won't be able to that for several weeks, if anyone has an idea about this Norton-Outlook email thing in the meantime...?

You can get AVG and ZoneAlarm active within 30 minutes.

Dump Norton for now until you get the problem reselved at your time/speed
