How do I start overclocking my eVGA 8800GTS (G92)

I am running an eVGA 8800GTS G92 card
using 169.25 drivers
Downloaded rivatuner 2.06

Now how do I go on about. I disabled driver signing, but I have no clue how to start overclocking this card? What else do I need to do, need to know in order for me to start overclocking to monstrous speeds?

I could not find a clear answer on here on how to exactly go on about o_O . . .

Here's one of many guides.

You'll see a shader tab pop up in addition to core and memory.

Here's some overclocks

Try a modest OC, say 740/1780/2000 to start. You'll also want to boost fan speed to at least 60%. You can learn fan profiles in Rivatuner, or set it to a fixed 60%.

Take your time and don't go crazy...

aah okay, now I see what my rivatuner is missing. During the instal of Rivatuner, it says that my drivers are new and does not recognize it. I should I revert to older nvidia drivers, or wait for rivatuner come out with a new version supporting the latest nvidia drivers?

Thanks for the links!

What drivers are you using? I use rivatuner and 169.21 for my GT and it works flawlessly.

i have the 8800GT 512 from evga and just ordered an aftermarket cooler. when it arrives i plan to use rivatuner to oc my vid card. my question is about the ram HS that come with the aftermarket cooler. are these for my system ram or for the ram on the GPU? here is a link to my cooler. http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16835118124
if these blue HS's go to my vid card, where do they go? should I just put one on each small chip on the back of the card?? Thanks for the help.

Rivatuner will work despite that pop-up message.

If however any option tabs in the program are greyed out, you may need to hack the .cfg file to support the GTS. There's already a line for the G92 GT...

To add support for 8800gts 512 to rivatuner 2.06, open rivatuner.cfg and make the following edit to the G92 line under [GPU_10DE] : G92 = 610h-61Fh,6

Awesome! My 8800GTS will be here tomorrow!! :) Good to know about that little trick, SteelSix! I'm going to take full advantage of EVGA's OC-able Warranty!

Just a gimmick, really. If you do end up frying the VGA due to overclocking, you could send it back and they'd never be the wiser as long as you didn't tell the manufacturer up front about it.

with the instalation with Rivatuner, I get a pop up about driver signing. the only option I have is close. Does it matter if I just click on close? or do I have to halt the instalation, reboot and hitF8 to disable driver signing and then reinstall Rivatuner?

Before you overclock you'll want to set up a fan profile with rivatuner
you will need to add the sensor plugin and to add the driver verson ,all can be found at 3dguru Rivatuner forum
NOTE:Rivaturner needs to run in the tray or the basic fan speed will be locked and won't spin up ! I hit 90c (had it set for 40%)in Crysis as one guide did not say what to do, to have it run after a reboot
My fan profile :starts @45% - 47c , @55c kicks up to 60%-@75c kicks to 75%
it's never hit 75c yet, but it is winter
enjoy

169.25 maybe is not whql or is an international driver. i use rivatuner 2.06beta on my 8800gt and 169.21 drivers. works fine and the g92's overclock well. i would say put a whql driver on there, or look for a rivatuner version that will recognize the drivers you have. check guru3d.com.

from rivatuner, you'll see an icon that looks like a small photo of the card. click that, and from there you have options to increase the frequencies of your shader/core/memory via slider bars.

also you may want to set your fan speed somewhere between 60-100%

Another option is Gainward's ExperTool http://www.gainward.net/support/support_uk.html
It covers most of what you need to OC your NVIDIA card, but doesn't have quite the number of features (or complexity) as rivatuner.

Interesting... I haven't pushed the core or shader very high, but I couldn't break 2000MHz on the RAM on two different GTSes. I would get artifacts even in 2D. The best I can get out of this card is the 1944 you see in my sig.

Thanks for the tip and help guys!

I downloaded nTuner, and clocked it to 785/?/2100. I have no idea how to the clock for the shaders in nTuner? I did not stop there and decided to clock my cpu 400MHz higher. it's great!

I haven't reached the top of the ram speed yet, but figured it is more then enough. @ 790MHz GPU CPU, I was getting little yellow dots in ATITOOL artifact test, but it did not come up as errors ( ??? )so I just put it a nod back where it was showing no yellow dots.

I am going to wait until RivaTuner supports nVidia's latest drivers, I tried the .cfg trick but nothing happend, even after a reboot, and reinstall with signed drivers turned off through F8 method @ boot up.

For now, I have more than enough though, playing Crysis @ 1280x768 @ high settings and it plays nicely. Is there a timedemo out where I can test for average framerate?

It's in the game: Program Files\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis\Bin32\Benchmark_GPU.bat

If you're running x64, it's: Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis\Bin64\Benchmark_GPU.bat

The benchmark is a flyby on the island map. If you end up getting the game it actually is much more intensive later on, so just because you get decent frames in the benchmark doesn't mean it will remain that way throughout.
