How do I start my own business

So I'm starting a little business dealing in a few different area (real estate and electronics/computers specifically but basically anything i can sell and make money on)

I am wondering what the first steps are to getting the business registered with the city or county to get everything looking as officially as possible.

Do I need to apply for a small business liscense? Do I need to register a name? Tax forms?

I am starting from ground zero and although I have the business all planned out I don't have any of the "making it official" part figured out.

If anyone has advice on what I need where I need to go or even a website that does not ramble on forever and has a good guide on what you need I would be very grateful!

Selling real estate...my guess it you might need to fill out some paperwork for that.

Selling misc. electronics...you will need a business license, but it might vary depending on if you have a storefront or not.

One of the easiest ways to get started is to try to open a business checking account. A reputable bank will have many requirements (such as it being a legal registered business name). The bank often has the forms there and will help you fill them out. While it won't get all the legal issues cleared up, it is a great start.

Thank you this is a great idea.

I had my own business once, and then some jerk came along and beat me up and stole all my lemons, after that I had to go out of business cause no one liked the taste of urine. Good luck with your business.

you need to file a ficitious name or DBA with city / county / state. It takes about 2-3 weeks. You need to file it, then go print an ad in a paper for 2 print cycles and then show that as proof and then you got your name registered.

YOu will need a PO box or something (its best to have) as your office addy.

You got to pay the licence fees, depends on where you are, but it can cost about 500/yr.

Become your own independant business owner.

(How long do you think this will go before I get flamed like a little bitch?)

that a pyramid scheme or what?

DAMN! I thought everyone heard of it by now.
Yup, its one of the biggest jokes here on ATOT.

Of course the standard point made any time its brought up is that EVERY business is a pyramid scheme.

Quixtar is basically the new name for Amway and a bunch of other companies it has swallowed up over the years.

You are in CA so you need to go to the State Board of Equalization to get a resale permit. It's free, or used to be, and only takes about ten minutes.

Starting a legitimate business is a royal pain in the arse.
