How do I speed up my SETI times? Plus what things should I download

I've got a P4 at 2.6Ghz but the times for my seti WU's seem to be between 3:40 and 4:00hrs when I 'm not doing much else on the PC. I was wondering if this was ok or should they be a little quicker?

Is there anything I can get which will tell me the average speed of the last few WU's I did, and/or record the time of each WU? Or is there anything I can get which will speed my times up a bit? thanks :)

Hi snow patrol.

Are you using SETI Driver? If so, open it up and check the 'Create SETILog.csv' option. A file named 'SETILog.csv' will be created in the directory in which SETI Driver is stored - open this up with excel to see a lot of data on your previous work units (including (I think) the times for the work units).

Hope this helps :)

Hi there - no problem at all, were all willing to help out :)

If you follow the 'Join Team Anandtech SETI' link in my sig, that has comprehensive instructions on how to download/run SETI driver.

Just a FYI -
SETI driver is an accompanying program for the SETI CLI (I assume youre running the CLI, and not the GUI/Screensaver...?) which hides the CLI and moves it to the system tray. SETI driver allows you to cache Work Units (I recommend 3 days worth, or more if need be). Its basically a really good control interface for the SETI CLI.

Any questions, and post again. I'll watch this thread incase you need help :)

Yeah :)

So how are you doing with Seti Driver?

Basically you put it in the same dir. as your SETI CLI and just run Seti Driver instead. Seti Driver then runs the main Seti program behind the scenes :)

Looks like you're gettin things sorted, just meltin ya on the way! ;)

I guess with WU times @ 3:40 to 4:00 you're using the GUI (pretty screensaver) version. The CLI (ugly DOS style one ;)) is MUCHO faster! What sorta FSB do you have to get that P4 to 2.6GHz? Just remember when overclocking Seti loves fast FSB and RAM! :)

BTW, if you use one of the TA Public Seti Queues then you can see exactly how your computer is doing, including 14 day averages, results per day graphs etc. Mine is here if you want to use it. In SetiDriver just set under Proxy Server the address teamanandtech.d2g.com and port 21 :)

Welcome to my queue! :)

Once you send in a completed work unit, then it will automatically create a new queue for you and start downloading work units specific to you. Once a few results have been sent in then you will be able to see all number of stats there, just feel free to have a browse through my stats on there to see what sort of things there are.

If you wish, there is the option to email you if you produce below your daily average, useful if you have remote clients that you wish to monitor and be notified if they go down. If you want me to set this up then just PM me your email address and i will sort it for you :)

Those times are kind of slow... My 1.6A P4 running at 1.4ghz averages 3h15m. And that's while I'm using it.

OK well I've got SETI driver and all that stuff up and running now, so I'll let it do a few WU's and see what sort of times I'm getting :)
