How do I solve these popping noises w/ my Creative card?

Ok so I just did a reformat, installed the drivers I DLed from the Creative website for my SB Live! 5.1, and there's all these popping noises whenver I play mp3's and video files. Last time this happened, I went to the Windows update page and DLed the windows drivers for it, but when I try to do that now, the drivers don't show up for DL.

So I guess I'm asking if anyone knows of an alternate solution to this issue, perhaps another driver version that will work, or even where to DL the microsoft drivers again so I can use them instead? Much thanks!

When I installed the Windows Update Creative driver I had no sound after install,so I would just install latest driver package from Creative`s website only .

You could try a different PCI slot and see if that helps.

Older Via chipset vs. Interrupt guzzling PCI card... yippie!!!

Try to get the current Via 4in1s and perhaps change the PCI slot where that card is in. The old Via chipsets just have crappy IRQ management and get stumped as soon as a picky card like the SB-Live or certain TV-Tuner cards are inserted.

I've experienced similar problems with an AMD/VIA-based system, Intel/VIA, and Intel/Intel-based systems. (Talking about the Live!, Live! 5.1, and Audigy sound cards)... the only way I was able to fix the problem without pulling out my hairs was doing another clean install. :frown:

Because I reformatted, I have the latest Hyperion 4in1 drivers DLed from the website. Also, my comp is a Shuttle SK41G, so it only has one PCI slot. :(

Anymore ideas?

can it be because of the connector between the card and the speakers' jack?
I sometimes had problem with creative's cheap connectors...

I'm not sure if the poping noise you get is the same kind you could get from bad connector, try fiddle around with the connection.

Thanks a lot bacillus, but I was wondering what values I should assign my sound card. Do you have any idea? Thanks!

If all else fails try another media player, or adjst your settings for the player. I get popping noises in some players, but not others.

btw, MrCraphead, I like your username ;)

Thats what the problem was with my SB Live 5.1 and FPS 2000 speakers - cheap ass connection/connector!

There must be a hundred webpages regarding the popping and squeaking of SB Lives which is more than likely due to the connector and nothing else. I tried everything then checked the connectors - you can guess what solved it.

This was after weeks of e-mails to CL and their recommendations to reformat systems, change PCI slots, manually adjust IRQ's etc etc......

hrrm.... i use the FPS2000 via digital din with my creative audigy and i dont get any popping sounds. however, when i turn the setting up to 96 KHz, instead of 48 KHz, i do get scratches and noticable popping. all i do is set it down a notch and it works without a hitch...

I currently use an Audigy and Creative DTT2200's - no problem at all either - but not using a digital connection.

The popping noise only occured with the digital connection - analogue was perfectly acceptable.

The connector for the digital cable was the culprit - I should have expanded on that further in my last post

Replace it with a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz and stop wasting your time and pulling out your hair... :D
