I have the printer attached to the Win98SE machine and when I try to print from the Win2k box it Hard freezes and i cant close anything...what do i need to do step by step?? its a Lexmark 5000 by the way

You need to load the driver to Win2K first. Your Win2k box probably freezes because it couldn't find the right driver for your Lexmark.

Map a printer instead of grabbing it through the share. and have the appropriate driver ready.

You can install the printer on the 98 machine as a local printer printing to custom port \\<2k machine name>\<shared printer name>

[edit]The opposite also works. Install the printer on the 2k machine as a local printer printing to custom port \\<98 machine name>\<shared printer name>[/edit]

what?? can someone give me step by step here? i already had the Win2k drivers for the printer installed on the Win2k box

First share out the printer on the Win98se machine.

Then go to the Win2K machine and uninstall the existing printer driver.

Then go to add printer in the printers folder and choose network printer... the rest is step by step.

Swap the printer to the Win2K machine and install it locally. See if you get the same problems.
If you do then its a compatibility problem with Win2K and the printer driver. Look for an updated printer driver. And try Win2K service pack 1.
