Well..it depends on why you are sharing CPU power. Basically you want to cluster..
Also check this.

Its for a Lighting Calculation Program called AGI32 and with a 3Ghz 800 FSB HT 512MB Dual Channel 400Mhz DDR Configuration its taken over 50 hours to calculate a file and its still going !! ... we have 60 PC's in the office and it would be nice to see there CPU's put to good use rather then just checking email ... that?s why ..

if you use linux you could run a beowulf cluster
they even have distros out there somewhere that come equiped to do such a thing

when you cluster you will saturate any network you hook them up with
preferably use gigabit ethernet if you can

Can i get this cluster to work without having to format and install an OS on every system ? ... can i use software and make a grid out of the existing Windows 98 - XP systems already in place?

Its my only option . These systems are to be used for other use's i was thinking about taking advantage of there idle CPU clocks and put them too good use.

A cluster is the only way I know to accomplish that - and you sure ain't gonna be doing that with any version of Windows. Other than something like running seti on each machine, I know of no way to do this. I guess you could program some client to process part of the info, but it would hardly be worth the effort, I suspect.

I'm guessing by some program thingy. I am by far NOT an expert on this, but if I remember correctly, 3dSMax4 could utilize a network to render scenes faster... isn't that kind of the same thing?
