what kind of files?

couple of things come to mind

ftp server giving access to necessary things
netbios over tcp/ip
pc anywhere

of the three pc anywhere would be the safest, and easiest to setup.

PC Anywhere sits on your home computer and waits for a connection, when it is connected it gives you complete control of your computer, as if you were sitting at it. Personally I would go for PCAnywhere, BackOrifice or NetBus. You'd be surprised how good the latter two are at perfectly harmless remote system administration.

I agree with konichiwa. Netbus/Backorifice may be treated as a trojan by Antivirus, but if you put a password on them and maybe change the port they listen to (can you do that?) then they would be perfectly good remote admin tools.

We use PC Anywhere to access pc's on our network and recently started dialing into my home pc. I even use it now to fix my parents nightly computer glitches! Works like a champ. Make sure you have a dedicated phone line for it though. If people call it, they get your modem instead of answering machine!
