How do I setup joypads in Mame?

wanted to play some good ol sf2 online but it said I needed what other ppl were using (emulator) . So i got mame32 and it runs fine and stuff, but I cant seems to find a way to setup my joypad with it. joypad works fine in other emu, but when i press tab to enter and remap the key, it doesnt respond.. any ideas?

In MAME32, go to the Options menu and choose Default Game Options... Now go to the Controllers tab and check the Enable joystick input box and ok everything. Gamepad now enabled.
