I want to hook up my computer to my TV and my Stereo, but I am unsure about how to get it all to work and still sound good. I know that this can be done but I'm not sure exactly how. Do I still need an amp for my speakers and where do I plug my computer into? What kind of video card do I need?

HELP!!!:(:)

for stereo, you have 2 choices

1) if you have a digital out on your sound card and a digital in on your stereo receiever, you can utilize a digital connection between them for great sound. let me know if you have either, and i can give you further instructions on hooking up using a coaxial digital connection

2) assuming you don't have a digital out on your soundcard or don't have a digital in on your receiver, you can simply use the regular speaker out of the soundcard and get a 1/8 inch stereo male to dual RCA adapter from radio shack, and then run a normal run-of-the-mill RCA cable from that adapter to any available "auxiliary" input on your receiver. select that input from the tuner menu, and away you go

as far as video on your tv, you would need a video card with a TV out. i'm not the expert on the video side of things, so i'll leave "what's the best card with a tv out" to others to answer :)

Not to sure bout the video part, but you prolly need something thst is called a "y-cable." you can pick one up at your local Radio Shack (i got one at Fry's, although it took the guy at least 5 minutes to understand what I was trying to find).

Then you can just hook it to the back of your comp. I am sorry if i am giving the wrong info, this is what I did a few years ago, but now I have my Klipsch, which sound like a home theater :)

I am in a similar situation..

I have a Cambridge Audio amp using a 1/8 inch stereo male to dual RCA adapter cable straight into the Line Out on my Santa Cruz soundcard. Amp is the connected to some Kef Cresta 2 speakers.
The sound is excellant and beats any other 5.1 setup for a full sound setup. I know it only uses 2 speakers but the Bass they can produce and the highs are tops..

anyway, what I was asking was - is there no way to get a digital signal from this?? Does the Santa Cruz have the connections??

I dunno off the top of my head. Look at the manual and see if it says it has a SPDIF output.

If so, then does your cambridge amp have a coaxial digital input?

If yes to both, let me know.
