How Do I Set-Up Voice Messaging?

I have an Actionec call-waiting modem. It works great for receiving calls when I'm on-line. However, sometimes I don't want to lose my dial-up connection so having voice messaging would be handy. The software that comes with the modem is pretty tough to figure out and I can't get it working.

Any suggestions on the best way to set-up voice messaging? Easy and free are good.
