How do I set up speakers ?

My current set-up is to connect external speakers to my sound card and the left speaker has an output to a subwoofer.

I just got a SONY monitor with reasonably good speakers. There is no sub-woofer output from the monitor. How do I set up the s-woofer. Can I just "T" off the soundcard output or must the s-woofer input be pre-amped? It always seemed wierd to me that the current set up has the signal go to the right speaker, then to the left speaker, and finally to the s-woofer. That's why I am wondering if there is some signal conditioning being done.

Without know what sub you have , most subs have a built in Xover so you would lead the Sat's (Monitor Speaks) to it and then use the plugs from the Sub to the Sound card (usually 2)
