Hello all,
My fraternity has an 802.11g wireless network what is secured with RADIUS WEP and a rotating key. The RADIUS server is our Windows 2003 server. Users log onto the network with their domain usernames and passwords. They also have to install a certificate on their computer to authenticate the server.
A couple guys recently got OS X laptops. I really have no idea how to make them work with this setup, although I would think it should be possible. How do we get these laptops to work with the network?
What follows are the instructions for setting an XP based computer, in case those will help.
Many Thanks,
Swan
1. Install the wireless card according to the manufacturer?s instructions. If your computer already has a wireless card installed, skip to step two.
2. Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add / Remove Programs. From here, you will need to uninstall any wireless networking software that came with your wireless networking card. The name of the software will vary with the manufacturer, but will probably include the name of the manufacturer listed somewhere in the software?s name. For specific instructions on uninstalling this software, consult your manufacturer?s documentation.
3. Connect to the FH-server shared drive. For instructions to map the FH-server shared drive to your computer, refer to the ?HOW-TO MAP TO FH-SERVER? document. From the shared drive, go to the ?_Committees\Computer? folder. Find the ?cacert.cer? file. Right-click on this file and select ?Install?.
4. Go to Start > Settings > Network Connections. Under ?LAN or High-Speed Internet?, right click on ?Wireless Network Connection? and select ?View Available Wireless Networks?. You should see ?FarmHouse? listed under ?Choose a wireless network?. Under related tasks, click ?Change advanced settings?.
5. Click on the ?Wireless Networks? tab. Make sure ?Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings? is checked. Under preferred networks, make sure that ?FarmHouse? appears. Select ?FarmHouse? and click the ?Properties? button.
a. For ?Network Authentication?, select ?Open?.
b. For ?Data encryption?, select ?WEP?.
c. Check ?The key is provided for me automatically?.
6. Click the ?Authentication? tab
a. Check ?Enable IEEE 802.1x authentication for this network?.
b. For ?EAP type:? select ?Protected EAP (PEAP)?.
c. Check ?Authenticate as guest when user or computer information is unavailable?.
d. Click the ?Properties? button.
e. Make sure that ?Validate server certificate? and ?Enable Fast Reconnect? is checked.
f. For ?Select Authentication Method:? select ?Secured password (EAP-MSCHAP v2)? and click ?Configure?. Un-check ?Automatically use my Windows logon name and password (and domain if any).? Click Ok four times.
g. A balloon on the task bar will pop up and ask you to supply user information to logon to the secured wireless network. Enter your INTRANET user name and password. For ?Domain:? enter ?INTRANET?. Once your user credentials are verified, your network card will acquire a network address and you will be on the wireless network. If you get a notice saying there is ?Limited or no connectivity? then your connection will not work.
h. Test the connection by opening Internet Explorer and browsing to your homepage.
