Apache2.

Apache2Triad if you don't feel like setting up PHP and MySQL separately.

The easiest software to use is BulletProof FTP server. You can download a trial version and play around with it.

An open source alternative is Filezilla FTP server.

Both are almost similar in use: after installing, you make new username/password combinations, then tell the server which folders on your computer need to be shared.

Filezilla server is free and fairly easy to set up. Google it. Apache might be overkill for your application but I have never had to set it up so I am probably talking out of my butt

I've been a reg'd user of Bulletproof products for years - nothing but positive things to say about them.

just FYI you probably won't be able to run on the default port - most ISP's block the low commonly used ports like 21,23,80,443,etc...so you'll have to change the default port on your server and on your ftp client when you connect to your server. And make sure you have port forwarding setup properly.

I've used the ftp server that comes with IIS. Worked fine for me.

The problem with IIS is sometimes it's overkill for a simple desktop computer.

Its not overkill due to the fact its included with Windows XP Pro.. so why not take advantage of its features... you can always opt not to install the web portion of it..
